KL Rahul Century Puts India Ahead As Shubman Gill Falls In West Indies Test

Opener KL Rahul struck his 11th Test hundred on day two of the opening Test against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His composed knock, which included 12 boundaries, helped India secure a first-innings lead despite the early loss of captain Shubman Gill.

At lunch, India stood at 218-3, holding a 56-run advantage after dismissing the visitors for just 162 on Thursday. Rahul remained unbeaten on 100, with Dhruv Jurel supporting him on 14 at the other end.

Shubman Gill’s Fifty Ends with Costly Mistake

Resuming the innings with Rahul on the second morning, Gill looked fluent as he reached his fifty with strokes across mid-wicket and square leg. He confidently dispatched Justin Greaves and Johann Layne to the boundary before attacking debutant spinner Khary Pierre for consecutive fours.

However, Gill’s innings came to an end at 50 after attempting a risky reverse sweep off Roston Chase, only to be caught in the slip cordon. His dismissal briefly halted India’s momentum but Rahul kept the scoreboard moving.

Rahul Brings Up Hundred with Single Off Chase

Rahul remained patient against disciplined West Indies bowling. He had a stroke of fortune when an edge off Jaydon Seales slipped past the keeper and first slip for four. But he capitalized on the chance, continuing to find gaps and rotate the strike.

The moment of celebration came when he nudged Roston Chase for a single to complete his century. His innings not only steadied India after Gill’s dismissal but also placed the hosts in a commanding position heading into the afternoon session.
