Kidnapping Mastermind Faizel Charloos Arrested After Fleeing Court

Mozambican kidnapping kingpin Faizel Charloos was arrested on Wednesday, just hours after fleeing from the Protea Magistrate’s Court.

Charloos, who was out on bail, was expected to appear in court on kidnapping charges related to the 2022 kidnapping of a Lenasia businessman.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that he was arrested in Bela Bela through crime intelligence-led information.

String Of Kidnappings And Arrests

The mastermind’s arrest is the latest development of kidnappings and arrests dating back to 2022. In March 2022, Charloos and five other suspects, including his wife Sadiyah, were arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Gauteng businessman Luqman Kazi.

The police raids also uncovered R3.2 million hidden in kitchen cupboards at his household, believed to be part of the ransom paid for the release of businessman Yasin Bhiko.

Charges And Court Appearances

Charloos is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court today, April 3, 2025, on a charge of contempt of court.

A further charge of kidnapping will be added, and he will join four co-accused for a formal bail application on April 9, 2025.

The suspect and his wife Sadiyah previously appeared in court in connection with two other kidnappings.
