Kidnapping Case Opened After 2-Year-Old Disappears In Ga-Mabuela Village

Police in Limpopo have opened cases of housebreaking and kidnapping following the disappearance of a two-year-old girl from Ga-Mabuela village.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), little Omphile Sethole went missing in the early hours of Saturday, 2 May 2026.

It is alleged that at around 2am, the child’s 52-year-old grandmother woke up to go to the bathroom and took the toddler with her before returning to bed.

When she woke again at approximately 6am, the child was gone, and a window in the room had been left open.

Search Operation Intensifies for Missing Toddler

Family members and neighbours immediately began searching the area but were unable to locate the child.

The matter was reported to police, who have since launched a large-scale search operation to find Omphile and track down the unknown suspect.

At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a pink jersey and black tights.

Police Appeal for Public Assistance As Kidnapping Case Opened

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Thembi Hadebe has urged members of the public to assist in locating the child.

“As the police we view crimes against children in the most serious light. All available resources have been mobilized to assist with the investigation and search for the baby girl,” she said.
