Khumalo Provides CCTV Footage Linking Sibiya To Suspicious BMW Deal In Madlanga Inquiry

A white BMW registered to the office of suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya took centre stage at Tuesday’s session of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo resumed his testimony in Pretoria after being forced to pause proceedings in early October due to illness. He had testified for two days before taking ill, and Tuesday marked his return to the witness stand.

Khumalo’s testimony focused on what he described as a suspicious connection between a police officer in Sibiya’s office and Sibiya himself.

BMW Connection Raises Red Flags

According to Khumalo, CCTV footage captured Sergeant FE Nkosi, a member of the Organised Crime Unit in Gauteng, collecting a package from the home of murder-accused Katiso “KT” Molefe in November last year.

Nkosi, who reported to Sibiya, was driving the same BMW registered to Sibiya’s office.

Khumalo said the vehicle had also been spotted following Sibiya’s car as he left his Centurion home after a police search and seizure operation in October.

“The connection was clear,” Khumalo testified. “On that convoy, the third car, as the convoy that was leaving the gate, is the same BMW that is allocated to the office of the deputy national police commissioner.”

Earlier testimony before the Commission had already suggested that Nkosi played the role of middleman for Sibiya, allegedly collecting large sums of cash from criminally-accused businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, known for his involvement in tender-related scandals.

The inquiry continues on Wednesday, when Khumalo is expected to provide further evidence on the alleged ties between senior police officials and criminal networks.
