Messy And Loud! Khaya Mthethwa Caught In Viral X Storm After Post About ‘Gay Then Straight’

The internet really never forgets — and this week, it clocked Gospel star Khaya Mthethwa with zero mercy.
Old tweets allegedly posted by the former Idols SA winner back in 2017 have resurfaced and sent Mzansi into full detective mode. The tweets — now making the rounds on X (Twitter) — have many netizens questioning whether Khaya was low-key talking about himself all along.
Khaya Mthethwa Old Tweets Spark Controversy About Sexuality
On Wednesday, 7 January 2026, an online user @destinyzee reposted screenshots of the tweets, sparking a heated debate about sexuality, identity, and why some thoughts maybe should’ve stayed in the drafts. The timing? Spicy. Khaya recently got married in 2025, which only added fuel to the already raging fire.
The resurfaced tweets read: “Ok can I ask, ladies would you date a guy who was gay and now is straight!? If yes, why and if not, why?”

“So… Was He Talking About Himself?” — Mzansi Reacts Loudly
Once the tweets went viral (again), the comment section turned into a full-on group chat with opinions flying in every direction.
One user, @Kane_GM9, dragged the phrasing, saying the question already sounded too personal and that the follow-up tweet made things even more suspicious. Others weren’t as subtle, with some flat-out declaring they’ve “never looked at him the same” since seeing those posts.
Then came the wild takes.
From people accusing Khaya of secretly being gay, to others opening up conversations about bisexuality and curiosity, the reactions ranged from messy to outright offensive. Some comments crossed the line, while others tried (and sometimes failed) to sound progressive.

Mzansi Twitter, as always, proved that nuance is optional.
While Khaya himself hasn’t publicly addressed the resurfaced tweets (yet), the discourse has reopened uncomfortable conversations about how celebrities are scrutinised — especially when it comes to sexuality.
Some netizens questioned why anyone would even speculate about a person’s private life based on old tweets, while others argued that once something is posted online, it’s fair game forever.
So… what do you think? Innocent question or accidental self-exposé?
