Khanyi Mbau’s Ex Claims He Was Going To Propose… Mzansi: ‘We Weren’t Born Yesterday’

Khanyi Mbau’s ex-boyfriend Kudzai Mushonga has popped up again — not with a ring, but with a story.  The Zimbabwean, entangled in fraud scandals, took to Instagram to claim that he had planned a grand proposal for the Queen of Bling’s 40th birthday… but social media isn’t having it.

The two, who have been on-and-off for a lot times  reportedly split quietly earlier this year after briefly reuniting. But on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, as Khanyi celebrated her milestone birthday, her ex took to Instagram with what he called “the surprise that never happened.”

In a lengthy emotional post, he revealed that he had been planning a lavish yacht proposal in Dubai for months — fireworks, drone show, décor, the works.

“They say life begins at 40. You deserve all good things in life, Happy BD Queen of Bling. Today, I thought I would begin yours with you… sailing on a yacht we had viewed together before, although I made it seem like we were viewing it for a client. It was all for your surprise 40th,” he wrote.

He went on to add, “I thought today was the perfect day to get on that one knee with such a perfect setting on a big day, because I like big days and had been waiting for this one for a long time.”

Mzansi, however, was not buying it. Fans quickly pointed out the timing of his “confession” — conveniently dropping it just as Khanyi was trending for her big day.

Fireworks or Fire-Cap?

In his dramatic farewell, he said he was only “secretive” about his phone because he was planning the big surprise. “With yacht company, Dubai Marine Water lights, catering, décor, fireworks at sea, drone show — permits!” he listed.

But fans were quick to call cap. One X user joked, “This man must release the yacht invoice if he’s serious.” Another wrote, “Every time Khanyi shines, he pops up with a sad paragraph. We see you.”

He ended his post with: “Here’s 40 hearts for you. To a new beginning without ME.”

Mzansi rolled their eyes in unison — because while Khanyi was out there glowing at 40, her ex was clearly still writing life soapies in Dubai.
