Kelly Khumalo’s Cold Take On Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial: “I Don’t Have Hopes For Rubbish”

After years of silence and speculation, Kelly Khumalo has finally shared her thoughts on the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial — and her words shook Mzansi to the core. The award-winning singer, who shares daughter Thingo with the late soccer star, gave a cold response when asked if she believed justice would be served:
“None of my business. I don’t have hopes for rubbish. I have no hopes for rubbish. I’m sorry.”
Senzo Meyiwa was tragically gunned down at Kelly’s Vosloorus home in 2014, and since then, the case has been one of South Africa’s most publicised trials. Despite being consistently mentioned as a person of interest, Kelly has never been called to testify — until now, when she let loose in an interview with SowetanLive.
Zandie Khumalo’s Painful Testimony
While Kelly’s remarks came across as detached and dismissive, her sister Zandile Khumalo-Gumede showed a very different side when she appeared in court as a state witness.
Zandie broke down in tears during her testimony, directly confronting the men accused of pulling the trigger: “Are you guys even aware what you did to my life? Are you guys even aware of what you did to us as a family on that day?”
The emotional moment led to the judge reprimanding her for speaking directly to the suspects — but it highlighted the deep wound the Meyiwa murder left on the Khumalo family.

Mzansi Reacts: Divided and Explosive
Kelly Khumalo’s “no hopes for rubbish” remark immediately trended online, sparking a firestorm of debate. While some defended her, others dragged her into the centre of conspiracy theories once again:
@ZaHighLife: “Why would she kill her baby daddy? What would she gain from that, though? You people are helping protect the real mastermind with your foolishness 😕”
@I_am_myselff: “I promise you, former Advocate Teffo was speaking the truth; Kelly is the mastermind.”
@sile_siba: “Lol, mama Baleka was saying the same thing, now she is crushing in court 😂😂😂”
@kheswa_thenjiwe: “Someone died that night. How can it be rubbish?”
From tears in the courtroom to cold indifference in the press, the Khumalo sisters have shown two very different faces of grief. And once again, South Africa is left asking: will the truth about Senzo Meyiwa’s death ever come out?
