Keimoes Man Bags 20 Years Jail Term For Fatal Knife Attack After Violent Confrontation

What began as a heated argument on Saturday, 16 March 2024, quickly spiraled into tragedy in Keimoes.

At around 15:20, a fight broke out between the deceased and the accused, Piet Van Wyk. During the altercation, the deceased allegedly chased Van Wyk with a spade but later abandoned the pursuit and returned home.

The conflict, however, did not end there. Van Wyk later returned to the victim’s house, this time armed with two knives, reigniting the confrontation.

Victim Fatally Stabbed During Altercation

According to police reports, the fight escalated once more, leading Van Wyk to stab the victim in the chest. The single wound proved fatal, and the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Keimoes SAPS registered a murder case and dispatched a team to conduct preliminary investigations. The accused fled the scene but was later tracked down and arrested. Authorities also confirmed the recovery of the murder weapon.

After a lengthy trial, the Regional Court of Keimoes convicted Piet Van Wyk of murder. On Monday, 8 September 2025, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Police have commended the swift work of investigators in ensuring justice for the victim.
