Kanye West’s SA Concert Faces Disaster — Only 6K Tickets Sold, No Deposit Paid

What was meant to be the biggest concert of the year could soon become South Africa’s most awkward live event flop. Kanye West, now known as Ye, might perform to a half-empty Ellis Park Stadium this December — that’s if the show even happens at all.

Sources close to the event say the Ye Live Concert is on the brink of collapse, thanks to slow ticket sales, unpaid deposits, and chaos behind the scenes.

The Money Drama Nobody Saw Coming

According to insiders, South African promoter Samuel Monyake from the Monyake Group hasn’t paid Ye’s team a cent since the flashy announcement on September 10. The first payment, a 50% deposit meant to go into an escrow account, allegedly never landed — leaving Ye’s management irritated and ready to pull the plug.

“No payment was made, even after Ye posted about the show. It irritated Ye’s management,” a source told Sunday World.

The contract reportedly required payments in three instalments:

• 50% on signing
• 25% within 72 hours of the announcement
• 25% a week later

None of it happened, and the deposit into the escrow account? Also missing.

When pressed for answers, Monyake blamed delays with investors and accused Ye’s camp of stalling by not signing the final escrow paperwork.

“I am waiting on his management to send back the escrow paperwork that I established with FNB in South Africa,” he said.

But Kanye West’s camp has reportedly gone radio silent — and word is, they’re already shopping for a new promoter to take over the South African leg before things get any messier.

Kanye West Show Ticket Sales Are Giving… Crickets

While Monyake insists “everything is fine,” numbers tell a different story. Insiders reveal that only 6,000 tickets have been sold — a shocking figure for a 42,000-capacity stadium.

For context:

• Chris Brown sold out FNB Stadium (90,000 seats) within hours earlier this year.
• When Ye first performed in SA back in 2012, golden circle tickets sold out in 20 minutes.

This time, even the die-hard fans seem unsure. And with the show’s messy money trail now public, sales might slow down even more.

Ticketpro, the event’s official ticket seller, has tried to reassure fans that their money is safe.

“Funds are held securely in trust and will be refunded if the event does not materialise,” said CEO Brandon Duffield.
