BOOM! Julius Malema And Wife Threaten R1 Million Lawsuit Against Musa Khawula Over “Marriage Collapse” Claims

The legal gloves are off! Julius Malema and his wife Mantwa Matlala are coming out swinging — and they’re not playing small. The couple has threatened to open a criminal case and slap celebrity basher Musa Khawula with a R1 million lawsuit.

And it all stems from explosive social media allegations that their marriage is allegedly on the rocks due to infidelity.

R1 Million Lawsuit & Criminal Charges on the Table

According to a letter of demand sent on Thursday, 26 February by England Slabbert Attorneys Inc, Malema and Matlala are demanding that Khawula publicly apologise and retract the statements.

If he fails to do so, the couple intends to pursue a monetary damages claim of R1 000 000, including a claim for solatium. They also plan to report his conduct to the South African Police Service and lay criminal charges of crimen injuria.

The lawyers state that on or about 25 February 2026, Khawula published posts on his X account alleging that Malema and Matlala had separated because she allegedly could not tolerate the EFF leader’s supposed association with other women.

He later reposted further allegations claiming, without evidence, that Malema — who serves as a Member of Parliament — had sent people to bribe him in an attempt to suppress the story about their alleged separation.

Julius Malema’s Lawyers: “False, Defamatory and Damaging”

In the legal correspondence, the couple’s attorneys argue that the statements were presented as facts and published without verification.

They say the posts convey that the marriage has ended, that divorce proceedings have been instituted, and that the alleged cause was repeated infidelity on Malema’s part. The legal team further argues that these claims suggest Malema is an adulterer, morally unfaithful, dishonest, lacking integrity and unfit for public office.

The lawyers also strongly reject the bribery allegations, stating that Malema has never attempted to pay Khawula, whether directly or indirectly.

They argue that claims of corruption, abuse of influence and financial impropriety are inherently defamatory and directly attack his credibility as a public representative.

According to the letter, the allegations have exposed both Malema and Matlala to national ridicule, humiliation and speculation. The lawyers further state that the claims have subjected their minor and adult children to emotional distress and unwanted public scrutiny.

“Our clients remain married, and no divorce proceedings have taken place,” the attorneys assert, adding that the allegations are prima facie defamatory as they attack the couple’s integrity, dignity, privacy and family reputation.

They maintain that, particularly for a public political leader, such claims undermine public confidence and credibility on a mass scale.

Should Khawula fail to comply with the demand for a public apology and retraction, the Malemas say they will proceed with legal action.
