Judge Aubrey Ledwaba Dismisses Claims Of R2.5 Million Bribe Over Katiso Molefe Bail

Acting Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba has firmly denied claims that he received R2.5 million to approve the bail application of alleged crime kingpin Katiso Molefe.

The issue of Molefe’s bail resurfaced this week during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where an investigating officer claimed that the alleged crime boss paid millions to secure his release.

Molefe was granted R100,000 bail by the Pretoria High Court in June, following a previous refusal by the Vereeniging Magistrates Court. His arrest stemmed from the murder of engineer Armand Swart, who was killed in what authorities described as a case of mistaken identity.

Allegations of Bribery Surface at Madlanga Commission

The commission heard shocking testimony suggesting that Molefe paid a R2.5 million bribe in exchange for his bail approval. The claim quickly drew public attention, casting a shadow over judicial integrity and prompting calls for clarification from the judiciary.

However, Judge Ledwaba moved swiftly to set the record straight, insisting he had not received any money in connection with the bail decision. He described the allegations as entirely false and without foundation.
