Joslin Smith’s Father Faints Twice In Court Amid Drug Abuse Allegations

During an emotional court session on Tuesday, March 11, Jose Emke, the biological father of missing six-year-old Joslin Smith, fainted twice while a social worker testified about Joslin’s mother, Kelly Smith’s, alleged drug abuse and violent behavior.

Joslin Smith’s Mother Faces Charges

Kelly Smith, her boyfriend Jacquin “Boeta” Jansen, and their friend Steveno Van Rhyn are currently on trial at the Saldanha Bay multipurpose centre for child kidnapping and trafficking. Joslin disappeared from her home in the Middelpos informal settlement, Diazville, on February 19, 2024.

Social worker Siliziwe Mbambo testified about Kelly’s history with the Western Cape Department of Social Development, revealing that she had allegedly threatened to stab her eldest son and had been abusive toward her grandmother, who later obtained a protection order against her.

Family Clings to Hope

Jose’s mother, Loretta Yon, shared that her son’s health has worsened since Joslin went missing due to his epilepsy. Despite the lack of new leads, she remains hopeful:

“We have hope that Joslin will be found. I believe she is still alive, especially because a body has not been found. I would have been happy, even if we found her body, for closure.”

Natasha Andrews, a close family friend who often cared for Joslin, testified about the child’s difficult upbringing. Andrews, who had previously asked to adopt Joslin in 2018, revealed that she had regularly provided shelter, food, and clothing for the little girl.
