Laurentia Lombaard, a key witness in the Joshlin Smith trial, has confessed to lying to a police officer during her arrest, raising serious questions about her credibility.

Lombaard, who was initially accused in the matter but has since turned state witness, made the shocking admission on the 14th day of the trial.

Cross-Examination Reveals Inconsistencies

Under cross-examination by Fanie Harmse, the legal representative for Jacquen ‘Boeta’ Appollis, Lombaard’s inconsistencies were exposed.

She initially told the court that she had discussed the sharing of money with Kelly on Sunday, February 18, 2024.

However, footage of her interview with Captain Cilliers revealed that she had actually stated the discussion took place on Monday.

When confronted with the discrepancy, Lombaard admitted to lying to the police captain.

Lombaard told the court when she gave her statement to Cilliers she did not really trust her and had reservations about the officer.

She  further said, “I didn’t know she was going to come to me. I just spoke. I didn’t know if I could tell people what happened.”

Trial Continues Amidst Controversy

Although the trial, have been marred by controversy, Lombaard was still cross-examined.
