Joshlin Smith Trial| Court Hears How Mom Proudly Said “My Child Made Me Famous”

Bombshell revelations continue to emerge in the Joshlin Smith case, now dubbed one of the biggest trials in the Western Cape.

Lieutenant Colonel Lincoln Sebola, the Saldanha SAPS station commander, took the witness stand and raised concerns over Joshlin’s mother, Kelly’s, demeanor during the investigation.

‘My Child Made Me Famous’ – Police Commander Testifies

Sebola, who led the massive police search for Joshlin, described how SAPS, Public Order Policing, Seaboard policing, law enforcement, six community leaders, and 120 community members participated in the search. As the investigation intensified, 150 detectives and 380 police officers from across the province were deployed.

Sebola recalled two interactions with Kelly before she met with then Police Minister Bheki Cele, revealing a shocking statement she allegedly made.

“She was acting like it was normal that her child was missing. What concerned me was when she said in her own words: ‘My child Joshlin made me famous.’ That made me worry. Especially as a parent,” Sebola testified.

Kelly Allegedly Prioritised Boyfriend Over Her Children

Sebola further revealed that SAPS secured accommodation for Kelly in Vredenburg, but she rejected it because her boyfriend could not stay with her.

“We then got her accommodation in Diazville, from a community member, where she could stay with her boyfriend. We had to have police stationed outside for safety because the community was angry,” he said.

When asked about Kelly’s other children, Sebola revealed a disturbing detail.

“The children were not with her. She never asked for accommodation for her children.”

Judge Nathan Erasmus reacted with disbelief and asked for clarity:

“So, there was no concern or request to have her other two kids (aged 11 and two) with her, but she wanted her boyfriend there?” Sebola confirmed: “Correct.”
