Water Maintenance To Hit Sandown And Region A In Johannesburg

Johannesburg Water says it will begin maintenance work in Region E on Tuesday, 25 February, from 9 am to 6 pm at the corner of Alice Lane and West Street. The maintenance aims to connect a 160mm pipe, improving service delivery in the suburb.

While South Africans continue to endure load shedding and load reduction, residents of Sandown, Gauteng, will face additional water supply disruptions due to planned maintenance.

Later in the week, Region A will also experience water interruptions due to critical pipeline repairs. Johannesburg Water is confirmed to begin repairs on Saturday, 1 March from 9 am to 9 pm. to a burst 900mm diameter steel pipe at the corner of Acacia Road and Republic Road in Ebony Park.

Affected areas are, Greater Ivory Park, Ebony Park, Kaalfontein, Rabie Ridge (all extensions). Johannesburg Water has promised to provide further details on alternative water supply for affected residents.

Recall, during a media briefing on Friday, 21 February, Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero assured residents that most water services have been restored following power outages that impacted pumping stations.

However, he warned that Johannesburg remains under Level 1 water restrictions and urged residents to use water sparingly to avoid Level 2 restrictions.

“Now more than ever, we must change our water usage habits. Even one small change a day can make a difference,” Morero said.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of recent rainfall for rainwater harvesting.
