Joburg Firefighters Attacked While Responding To Shack Blaze In Soweto

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) has condemned an attack on its firefighters who came under fire while responding to a blaze in Soweto.

According to EMS Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi, the firefighters were attending to a shack fire in the Motsoaledi informal settlement when their fire engine was pelted with stones.

Mulaudzi confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident but expressed deep concern over the growing trend of violence against emergency personnel.

EMS Calls on Public to Protect Firefighters

“As the City EMS, we are really concerned about this incident. It does not only create panic and fear among the EMS personnel, but it also disrupts service delivery,” said Mulaudzi.

He urged residents to work with emergency services rather than against them, emphasising the vital role of EMS workers in saving lives and protecting property.

“While we are rendering this very important essential service, we are pleading with our residents to not only protect EMS personnel but to also protect the resources,” he added.
