Actress Jo-Anne Reyneke has sent social media into a spin after boldly declaring that marriage simply isn’t for her — and never will be. The star’s unfiltered honesty has lit up timelines, with fans split between applauding her courage and questioning her stance.

The 37-year-old opened up during an interview with Penuel Mlotshwa on The Konvo Show, revealing her long-standing discomfort with the institution of marriage. “I don’t believe in marriage, and I don’t ever want to get married,” she said, leaving no room for doubt.

Reyneke, who recently appeared in Bad Influencer, explained that her view took shape early in life after witnessing many women around her struggle within their marriages.

“Even the concept of being a bride, where you’re expected to do certain things for your husband’s family but he does nothing for yours. You’re his slave. You are bought, you have to change your last name while your surname dies out.”

Despite her personal choice, Reyneke made it clear she respects couples who flourish within marriage and acknowledged that the experience can be positive for many.

Reyneke — who ended her decade-long relationship with actor Thami Mngqolo in 2018 — hinted that she once imagined a long future with him before realising she was no longer fulfilled.
