At a provincial funeral service held at the Akasia community hall in Pretoria on Saturday, commentator and TV presenter JJ Tabane expressed his deep disappointment, stating, “we have failed Solly Moholo as a nation. I think it’s a bloody shame.”

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi joined a host of mourners, noting that Moholo performed tirelessly for the ANC, often without financial compensation. “Solly Moholo was committed to serving God and was great on stage,” Lesufi recalled, highlighting the gospel artist’s unwavering dedication to his craft.

Amidst celebrating Moholo’s life, his son-in-law Lesego Nkitseng shed light on the financial struggles faced by the family during his hospitalizations. The Moholo family had sought public donations for medical expenses, raising significant concerns about healthcare accessibility and support for artists.

Despite their efforts to raise ZAR 700,000, they only managed to gather ZAR 100,000, indicating a stark reality many families may face in similar situations.
