Jerome “Donkie” Booysen Trial: Alleged Corrupt Cop Under Scrutiny In Brian Wainstein Murder Case

The Western Cape High Court has shifted its attention to an allegedly corrupt former police officer as the high-profile trial into the murder of alleged “Steroid King” Brian Wainstein continues.

Jerome “Donkie” Booysen — a figure often linked to Cape Town’s underworld — and 11 co-accused are facing 36 charges, including Wainstein’s 2017 murder and several other crimes.

On Monday, a ballistics expert from the SAPS forensic science laboratory in Plattekloof testified about one of the accused: ex-Sea Point detective Wayne Henderson.

Jerome “Donkie” Booysen: Former Detective Accused of Taking R100k Bribe

According to the state, Henderson allegedly accepted a R100,000 bribe from co-accused Sam Farquharson to compromise the murder investigation.

The witness, who cannot be named for safety reasons, told the court that Henderson refused to collect a firearm connected to Wainstein’s murder for fingerprint analysis. Instead, he allegedly instructed colleagues to continue with their ballistic work without his input.

Prosecutors argue that this deliberate failure to process crucial evidence was part of Henderson’s corrupt agreement with Farquharson to derail the case.

During questioning, the judge asked whether Henderson had followed up after making his call to the forensic unit.

“As far as what you were aware, had he come back to the person who had made the phone call?” the judge asked.

The witness responded firmly: “No judge.”

The trial, which has already exposed alleged links between law enforcement and Cape Town’s criminal underworld, is set to continue this week.
