Jeff Bezos Predicts Millions Will Live In Space Within Decades

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has predicted that millions of people could be living in space “within the next couple of decades.” The billionaire made the bold claim during a rare public appearance at Italian Tech Week in Turin, according to the Financial Times.

In conversation with John Elkann, heir to Italy’s Agnelli dynasty, Bezos emphasized that people would choose to live in space “mostly because they want to.” He explained that robots would take on heavy labor tasks, while massive AI-powered data centers would operate in orbit.

Jeff Bezos Space Rivalry With Elon Musk

Bezos’s vision comes amid an ongoing rivalry with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who has long championed human colonization of Mars.

Musk has suggested that as many as one million people could inhabit the red planet by 2050. Bezos’s remarks add fuel to the debate over how and where humanity will expand beyond Earth.

During his appearance, Bezos also defended the surge in artificial intelligence investment, calling it a positive development. He argued that the AI boom is a “good” bubble since it is “industrial” rather than “financial.”

“There has never been a better time to be excited about the future,” Bezos declared, expressing optimism about technological progress and human advancement.
