Itu Khune And Wife Bashed For ‘Betrayal’ After Supporting Orlando Pirates!

Football loyalty in South Africa is serious business, and Itumeleng “Itu” Khune just found himself in the hot seat!
The former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and his wife Sphelele Makhunga attended a Nedbank Cup match over the weekend, where Orlando Pirates secured a 3-1 victory over Baroka FC. But instead of just enjoying the game, they left Amakhosi fans fuming!
“What Are You Doing, Itu?” – Fans Lash Out
Itu and Sphelele took to Instagram to share snaps from their Pirates-filled weekend, with both dressed in all-black attire—which fans quickly associated with the Buccaneers.
Khune’s Instagram post was flooded with comments from confused supporters demanding to know where his loyalty truly lies. Meanwhile, Sphelele stirred the pot even more by teasing followers with a caption: “You can tell which team I was supporting.”

Trying to calm the storm, Khune reassured fans in the comments: “Amakhosi 4 Life.”
Meanwhile, his wife softened the blow, but still gave props to the opposition: They play good football.”
What’s Next for Itu?
Last year, after 20 years of service, Itu Khune quietly parted ways with Kaizer Chiefs following the non-renewal of his contract for the 2024/2025 season.
The 37-year-old veteran shot-stopper was honoured by the club in December for 25 years of dedication, dating back to his days at the youth academy.
Now, with shares in a sports betting agency, Khune may be exploring a new path in football—off the pitch.
