It’s Official: Royal AM Kicked Out Of PSL

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has pulled the plug on Royal AM’s membership, and it’s effective immediately.

At a special Board of Governors meeting held Thursday morning at the Sandton Convention Centre, reps from all 31 clubs — except Royal AM — voted in favour of the recommendation made by the league’s executive committee to expel the struggling club.

Why Royal AM Got the Boot

The trouble started when Royal AM failed to honour fixtures at the start of 2025, eventually leading to their indefinite suspension. But that was just the surface.

SurgeZirc SA previously revealed that the club, owned by flamboyant businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize, is under SARS curatorship over a massive R40 million tax debt. With only 11 league games played this season, Royal AM simply couldn’t carry on — and now they’re out.

What This Means for the League

• Royal AM’s results? Wiped out. Every point gained by or against them is now null and void.
• Teams will finish the season on 28 matches, not 30.
• The team that finishes 15th on the table will go straight into the relegation/promotion playoffs.
• The league continues with just 15 clubs for the rest of the campaign.

A League in Limbo

This is the first time in years that a PSL team has been kicked out mid-season, and it’s left a bit of a mess in the standings. But with the decision now final, the focus shifts back to the football — and to the battle at the bottom of the table.

With fewer games and more on the line, the relegation dogfight just got a serious shake-up.
