Israel Bans Travel From SA: “Maybe The Universe Doesn’t Want Lalela There”

It has been obstacle after other since it was announced that Miss SA 2021, Lalela Mswane will b attending the Miss Univers beauty pageant in Israel.

Once again Lalela topped the Twitter trends list this morning (November 26) after Israel banned travel to and from South Africa following the announcement of a new COVID-19 variant in the country on Thursday, November 25.

B.1.1.529, a new COVID-19 variant, was detected in South Africa this week, suggesting that Lalela Mswane’s decision was made for her. Following the news, the United Kingdom banned flights from Southern African countries, including South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini, and Zimbabwe.

“@UKHSA  is investigating a new variant. More data is needed but we’re taking precautions now. From noon tomorrow six African countries will be added to the red list, flights will be temporarily banned, and UK travellers must quarantine,” wrote health secretary Sajid Javid on Twitter.

Following suit, Israel prohibited the entry of Southern African tourists into and out of the country. The remaining countries were also added to the red list. Israelis are also prohibited from visiting countries on the “red” list.

Tweeps were quick to point out that Miss SA Lalela Mswane should take this as a sign that she should not compete in the Miss Universe pageant, which is set to take place on December 12.

Lalela’s brief reign as Miss SA, which began on October 16, has been marred by controversy. The Miss SA pageant hosts announced that Lalela would compete in the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Israel this year.

However, she has been under pressure to boycott the pageant because Israel has been labelled an “apartheid state.”

Tweeps seem to be “relieved” now that Israel has banned travel from Southern African countries and Lalela may not be able to participate.
