Isidingo Actress Michelle Botes Passes Away At 63

In a recent interview with Bruis magazine, Michelle Botes candidly opened up about her health struggles. She was diagnosed in July 2022 and had spent the past two and a half years fighting the disease.

Botes initially underwent chemotherapy, steroids, and even a stem cell transplant. However, she chose to discontinue treatment after experiencing severe side effects.

Living with her son Daniel and his wife Nolene in Observatory, Cape Town, Botes faced her illness with grace and resilience. Her condition took a significant turn for the worse in October 2024, and her health deteriorated rapidly over the past few weeks.

Michelle Botes’s career spanned decades, making her a household name in South African television and theatre. Her role as Cherel de Villiers-Haines cemented her legacy as one of the most iconic villains on South African screens. Beyond Isidingo, she graced productions like Arende, Konings, and Binnelanders.

Actor Anton Dekker, a longtime friend and colleague, paid tribute to her on Facebook: “Gorgeous Michelle Botes, legendary actress, passed away earlier this morning. Rest in peace dear Michelle.

“Michelle and I have walked a very long way together. Did theatre together in the 80s and became a TV couple much later. I will always remember her exuberant laugh, no matter how difficult the situation we found ourselves in.

“Extremely professional, and always in full control of her character and the world around her character. I will personally miss you terribly. The world is poorer without you. A pure gem’s sparkle was muted out this morning. My deepest and sincere condolences to your children Cara and Daniel.”

Michelle Botes leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary talent and professionalism. Her portrayal of complex, powerful characters resonated with audiences across South Africa and beyond.

She is survived by her two children, Cara and Daniel, who now face the difficult task of moving forward without their beloved mother.
