Is Nandipha Magudumana Pregnant? Department Of Correctional Services Responds

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has shut down widespread social media speculation that disgraced doctor Nandipha Magudumana is expecting a baby.

The false claims, which spread rapidly across Facebook, alleged that Magudumana – who is currently facing charges linked to Thabo Bester’s 2022 prison escape – was four months pregnant.

One viral post even quoted a fabricated statement supposedly from DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.

The post further alleged that a senior correctional officer had been suspended and that Bester was “breathing heavy fire” over the news.

DCS quickly dismissed the story on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, labeling it “fake news.”

Where Nandipha Magudumana Is Being Held

Magudumana is currently held in the hospital wing of the Bizzah Makhate prison in Kroonstad, Bloemfontein. While some claim she is enjoying a “soft life” behind bars, officials have firmly denied this.

National Commissioner of Correctional Services Makgothi Thobakgale explained during a 2023 prison walkabout:

“The purpose is to isolate her, control her movement. To make sure she does not have interaction [with others] or access to cellphones.”

He also emphasized that Magudumana receives the same meals as other inmates and does not receive special privileges. However, like other offenders, she does have access to a prison salon.

What’s Next for Magudumana and Bester

Magudumana – once a high-profile celebrity doctor – faces multiple charges including fraud, violation of bodies, and orchestrating Bester’s daring escape. Their highly anticipated trial begins on 10 November at the Bloemfontein High Court.

Meanwhile, Thabo Bester remains in Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru C-Max prison. He is serving life sentences for his 2011 and 2012 rape and murder convictions.
