IPID Probe Police After SAPS Vehicle Kills Child And Injures Two In Western Cape Crash

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has launched an investigation into a heartbreaking incident in which a police vehicle struck three children in the Western Cape, leaving one dead and two injured.

According to IPID Western Cape spokesperson Phaladi Shuping, the incident occurred over the weekend as three police officers were on their way to a murder scene. The case is being investigated as culpable homicide, reckless, and negligent driving.

IPID Probe: Police Vehicle Swerved Before Crashing Into Wendy House

Shuping explained that the police vehicle collided with a wendy house after the driver swerved to avoid a taxi allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the road. Tragically, the vehicle crashed into the structure where the children were playing.

“An 11-year-old child died on the scene, and the other two were taken to hospital for treatment,” Shuping confirmed.

Following the tragic crash, members of the local community reportedly attacked the police officers involved and set the police vehicle alight. IPID has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and will determine whether any criminal charges will follow.
