IPID Arrests Nine Police Officers In Pinetown For Alleged Attempted Murder

In a significant development, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested nine police officers in Pinetown.
The officers are accused of firing shots at a businessman whose car they had pulled over. This incident occurred while the motorist was driving on the M13 on May 30.

According to IPID spokesperson Phaladi Shuping, the police allegedly shot at the businessman while he was seated in his car. Fortunately, the motorist was not injured in the incident. However, a case of attempted murder was subsequently opened against the involved police officers.
Following the investigation by IPID, the nine police officers were arrested and appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court. Each officer was granted bail set at R5,000. The case has been postponed to August 20 to allow for further investigation.
