Innovative MiDesk Wheelie Schoolbag Enhances Learning In Underprivileged Schools

South African company’s revolutionary MiDesk, a wheelie schoolbag that transforms into a desk and chair with a solar light and USB charging port, is making a significant impact in schools across the country and the continent.

This week, McDonald’s South Africa donated MiDesks to two primary schools in Cape Town, addressing the severe lack of proper school furniture, particularly for Grade 1 pupils who often have to write on the floor.

MiDesk has received endorsements from the Department of Science and Innovation and UNESCO as a vital tool in enhancing classroom experiences in disadvantaged communities.

McDonald’s South Africa’s Chief Marketing Officer, Daniel Padiachy, emphasized the broader significance of the initiative.

“Today’s initiative is not just about desks—it is about hope. It is about sending a clear message to these young minds that they are valued, that their education matters, and that we believe in their potential to shape the future of our nation,” he said.

Additionally, the donation marks the start of a larger commitment by McDonald’s South Africa to support schools in need across the country, ensuring more learners have access to basic infrastructure for effective learning.

Dr Farana Boodhram of MiDesk Global highlighted the importance of corporate partnerships in uplifting education.

“This collaboration goes beyond providing furniture to children in need; it represents our shared commitment to fostering hope, creativity, and a passion for learning among pupils. These mobile desks will empower them to learn without limits,” she said.
