Imogen Mashazi Claims Unfair Treatment During Testimony At Madlanga Commission

Former Ekurhuleni City Manager Imogen Mashazi says she has been treated unfairly during her testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Mashazi appeared before the commission on Monday and returned on Tuesday morning as proceedings continued in Pretoria.

Throughout her testimony, she was met with difficult questions, many of which she struggled to answer to the satisfaction of both the commissioners and the evidence leader.

Mashazi to Submit Additional Evidence Next Week

The commission has granted Mashazi until next Wednesday to gather supporting documents and evidence. Her legal team is expected to submit a supplementary affidavit to address outstanding issues raised during questioning.

Earlier on Tuesday, her attorney, Mr Moosa, told the commission that Mashazi believed she had been prejudiced due to not having full access to information during her testimony.

“It’s under instruction that she’s referred to me, and I’ve got a duty to place it before the commission is that ‘over the last day or so, I was in a position where I had to face certain questions and answer to certain allegations without having all the information at my disposal’.”

Moosa also noted that Mashazi is worried about the public’s view of her following her appearance before the commission.

“She says, ‘what about the perception that has been created of me as a public figure over the last day?’.

“And I said to her that is something we can’t do, we can’t turn back the clock, but what we can do is use the next three to four days and optimise the opportunity to do a detailed supplementary statement, annexing anything that is important as was illustrated over the last two days.”
