‘I’m Not Afraid To Be Prosecuted’: Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi Responds To Alleged Perjury Charges

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has spoken out for the first time following perjury charges filed against him by National Coloured Congress (NCC) MP Fadiel Adams.
The case arises from Mkhwanazi’s testimony before the Madlanga Commission, where he accused Adams of illegally obtaining classified parliamentary intelligence documents. The commissioner alleged that Adams, who is not a member of Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence, had recklessly handled confidential material.

Addressing the media during the launch of the festive season safety plan in Durban, Mkhwanazi made it clear that he is not intimidated by the legal action taken against him.
“We’ll deal with that at the Ad Hoc Committee. If there’s any case open at a police station, anyone has got the right to open a case. Police must investigate and if there’s a crime committed and the police feel that they must take that into the courts, and the courts, if they decide to prosecute, will prosecute,” he said.

Despite the controversy surrounding his testimony, Mkhwanazi maintained a confident stance, saying he will not be intimidated by the charges.
“I was never afraid to be prosecuted. I’m not going to be afraid to be prosecuted now,” he declared.
He went on to challenge Adams directly, suggesting that the MP’s actions were an attempt to threaten or intimidate him.
“If Mr Adams, whom I spoke about in that commission, feels that he must then use the strategy to threaten or intimidate, it’s okay. I’m not afraid of that. We already understand which side of the law he is. We’ll find each other in the right place. Let it happen. He must bring it on,” he said.
