Illegal Miners Busted: 12 Foreign Nationals Arrested In Kimberley Crackdown

Twelve foreign nationals were arrested during a joint police and Home Affairs operation in Kimberley after being found in contravention of the Immigration Act, authorities confirmed on Friday.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 50, include ten men and two women. They were apprehended in the Kenilworth area and the Kimberley Central Business District during Operation Vala Umgodi disruptive actions targeting illegal mining and associated criminal activity.

Home Affairs Confirms Foreign Nationals Status

An officer from the Department of Home Affairs assisted the operation by verifying the suspects’ documents. All twelve individuals were subsequently declared to be illegally present in the country.

The suspects are expected to appear in court in the coming days, where they will face charges under the Immigration Act.
