“The past few days reminded me how precious life really is. I was admitted to hospital after getting very sick. For someone who hardly ever gets sick, this really shook my family,” she shared.

According to the actress, the day she was admitted was especially traumatic. She revealed that she was vomiting continuously and even coughing up blood, leaving her too weak to speak.

In a deeply personal moment, Gwala said her 18-year-old daughter had to help care for her before she was taken to hospital.

“The day I was admitted I was vomiting nonstop, even popping blood, and I couldn’t even speak. My 18-year-old daughter had to bathe me before I was taken to hospital… something I will never forget.”

The actress also warned fans about what she believes may be a new stomach virus spreading quickly among people.

She explained in isiZulu that the illness seems to spread easily between individuals.

“Kunesisu esisha esifikile, sithathelana njenge COVID (airborne).”

Roughly translated, she said a new stomach bug appears to be circulating and spreading rapidly — similar to how airborne viruses spread.

However, she noted that the symptoms may differ from person to person.

While some people may experience mild discomfort, her case turned out to be extremely severe.

“Some people experience mild symptoms, but mine were very severe. I’m sharing this because I’m incredibly grateful to be here today.”
