Hotel Worker’s Video Sparks Fresh Doubts Around Nathi Mthethwa’s Death

A video clip allegedly featuring a housekeeper at the Hyatt Regency Etoile hotel in Paris has reignited debate around the mysterious death of South Africa’s Ambassador to France, Nkosinathi “Nathi” Mthethwa.

The footage, which was reshared by controversial music executive–turned–podcaster Nota Baloyi, challenges the official explanation that Mthethwa jumped from the 22nd floor of the hotel.

Worker’s Testimony Raises Questions

In the viral video, the individual believed to be a hotel worker claims the windows on the 22nd floor do not fully open, casting doubt on how Mthethwa could have exited through them.

“The window is a little blocked there. I don’t know how he jumped there, but the windows are really closed. There is no space for one to put their head out. There is no space. I work on those floors.

“Yeah. It’s a little bit strange because if you enter the room, the window is always blocked. You can’t even put your hand. It’s a bit complicated now. I don’t know how he did it. I don’t know if he forced it, and I don’t know,” the alleged worker explained.

Nota’s decision to share the clip has intensified already simmering suspicions among South Africans who doubt the official story of Mthethwa’s passing.

Mzansi Reacts Online

The testimony sparked heated debate online, with many echoing the housekeeper’s concerns and demanding clarity from both French authorities and the South African government.

An X account user, @KhathiThantsha, said, “And the windows have sensors; if one attempts to break the windows, they will trip the alarm. So, this is a story.”

Another X user @Sipho14J added, “No footage yet. Hotel lobbies have cameras, even the exits and entrances have cameras. They need to provide something to show the time and whether he was alone.”

Others leaned into conspiracy claims, with @EugeneZweli alleging, “Well, the French intelligence is known for doing clean sweeps.”

Some even doubted Mthethwa’s death altogether, with @lerumo479 writing, “You were right all along. He might probably be in Monaco.”

Pressure Mounts for Answers

While Nota Baloyi continues to question the official narrative, the hotel worker’s testimony has shifted the focus of public suspicion to the physical plausibility of the fall itself.

For many, the video makes it clear that South Africans deserve a transparent, detailed account of what really happened in Paris on the night of Mthethwa’s death.

SurgeZirc SA had earlier reported that Nathi’s relative Khulekani Mthethwa said they believe there are unanswered questions surrounding the death of their brother.

“My brother would not have feared appearing in front of the Madlanga Commission to answer for any allegations against him. He was not a coward. As the family we dismiss any suggestion that he took his life to avoid going to the Commission,” Khulekani said.

Meanwhile, French authorities are currently investigating the matter with possibilities of suicide in view as the family of the ambassador and the South African government patiently wait for the outcome of the investigation.
