Home Affairs Is Improving Network Connectivity At Its Offices

Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber has announced a strategic initiative aimed at improving network connectivity across the department’s offices.

This pilot project is a collaborative effort with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and has already shown promising results in enhancing the efficiency of Home Affairs services.

The initiative involves migrating some of Home Affairs’ network connections from the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) setup to the CSIR’s infrastructure.

Schreiber highlighted that this transition is a critical step in addressing the frequent offline issues faced by various Home Affairs offices, which have led to significant public dissatisfaction.

The pilot project has been successfully implemented in the Wynberg office in Cape Town, which now boasts a 1 GB per second connection. This marked improvement contrasts sharply with the slower and less reliable connections previously provided by SITA.

The enhanced connectivity has made a substantial difference in the operations of the Wynberg office, resulting in better service delivery and reduced downtime.

Schreiber emphasized the importance of continuing to collaborate with the Department of Communications and other relevant stakeholders to expand these technical solutions across all Home Affairs offices.

The goal is to establish more robust and faster network connections, thereby improving overall efficiency and public satisfaction with Home Affairs services.
