Home Affairs Dismisses Seven Officials, Bringing Total to 63 In Corruption Crackdown

The Department of Home Affairs has dismissed seven additional officials as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle corruption and misconduct.

This brings the total number of employees fired since June 2024 to 63.

The department said the latest dismissals form part of a broader strategy to address corruption, maladministration and unethical conduct within its ranks.

SIU Findings Highlight Extent of Corruption

Some of the cases are linked to investigations by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), which recently highlighted serious concerns about corruption within the department.

Minister Leon Schreiber said the department is taking decisive action to address wrongdoing.

“Our zero-tolerance approach does not rely on words, but it is demonstrated in ongoing concrete action to rebuild the rule of law in a department that is fundamental to the functioning of our society,” Schreiber said.

He added that Home Affairs is working closely with the SIU and other law enforcement agencies to investigate and act against misconduct.

Dozens of Cases Opened and Finalised

Since July 2024, the department has opened 95 misconduct cases involving a range of irregularities. Of these, 75 cases have already been finalised.

Schreiber said the dismissals demonstrate the department’s commitment to addressing long-standing challenges.

“Our message remains unambiguous. We will continue to act against anyone found guilty of corruption, fraud or misconduct,” he said.

The department said restoring public trust and improving internal systems remain key priorities, with further action expected as investigations continue.
