Home Affairs Confirms Disciplinary Action Against Staff Exposed By Whistleblower Mr T

The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that disciplinary action has been taken against a number of employees implicated in corruption following revelations by whistleblower Mr T.

Mr T, who exposed major irregularities at the Marabastad Home Affairs office in Pretoria, recently spoke with 702 Breakfast about the fallout of his disclosures.

His identity was previously revealed by former Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, who praised him for his courage in confronting corruption within the department.

Since coming forward, Mr T has survived two assassination attempts and now lives in hiding. “He’s a diligent man who hates corruption,” Motsoaledi said during a previous briefing, where he compared Mr T to the late whistleblower Babita Deokaran.

Home Affairs: Whistleblower Raises Concerns Over Lenient Punishments

Despite risking his life to expose wrongdoing, Mr T expressed disappointment over what he describes as lenient action taken against some of the officials he reported.

“Then I identified a guy. On that day, he was not at work. Then the following day, I called him to my office. Tell me what actually it transpired.

“I see here, you went on this, but somebody had worked on them. He immediately said, ‘well, you know, I have a problem with cash. I need to pay any cash’,” Mr T recounted.

According to him, the implicated staff member was suspended for three months after pleading guilty and then reinstated — a decision that raised fears of further misconduct.

In response, Home Affairs stated that several of the cases reported by Mr T have been investigated and disciplinary measures have been implemented against those found guilty of wrongdoing.
