Hitchhiker Robs And Rapes Two Women In Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal

Two women were subjected to a traumatic ordeal after they were robbed and raped by a hitchhiker in Mavela, Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 06:30 when a male motorist was transporting two female passengers from Verulam to Ndwedwe. Along the route, he stopped and offered a lift to three individuals, consisting of one man and two women, who were allegedly consuming alcohol at the time.

The two female hitchhikers were later dropped off in Mavela, Ndwedwe, while the male hitchhiker asked to be taken further along the route.

Armed Hitchhiker Turns on Driver in Ndwedwe

While the vehicle was still in transit, the male hitchhiker allegedly produced a firearm and ordered the driver to turn onto an unpaved road. Upon reaching a dead end, the suspect reportedly robbed the driver of an undisclosed amount of cash and a Samsung cellphone.

The driver was then instructed to leave his white Suzuki Dzire and run from the scene. He was not physically harmed during the incident.

Two Women Robbed and Raped Near Riverbank

After confronting the driver, the suspect allegedly forced the two female passengers down an embankment towards a nearby river. He reportedly robbed them of their cellphones before raping both victims.

The perpetrator then fled the scene on foot, disappearing into dense bushes in the area.

The driver managed to obtain assistance from members of the local community, who contacted authorities for help. He was, however, unable to provide the exact location of the two female passengers.

A joint search operation was launched by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) and the Ndwedwe SAPS. The two female victims were subsequently located approximately one kilometre from the main road in a bushy area.
