Hijacked Truck Recovered And Kidnapped Driver Rescued In Avoca Hills, KZN

A hijacking incident on Malendela Road in KwaMashu, KZN, ended in Avoca Hills this afternoon (Friday) with the safe rescue of a kidnapped truck driver and the recovery of an Isuzu truck.

According to reports, the truck, owned by a local business, was ambushed at a traffic light when a silver Toyota Etios suddenly blocked its path.

Four armed suspects carrying handguns jumped out and confronted the driver and two conductors. The conductors were forcibly removed, while three suspects hijacked the truck and abducted the driver.

Quick Thinking Helps Track the Hijacked Truck

The conductors managed to escape and alert their employer, who quickly activated the truck’s tracking device. A company employee followed the signal to Avoca Hills and kept a safe distance while contacting Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance.

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they found the truck with the kidnapped driver still inside. The driver explained that the suspects fled moments earlier when they noticed first responders arriving.

The armed men attempted to break into a drop safe at the back of the truck but failed. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Authorities confirmed that the swift response and use of tracking technology prevented further harm to the driver and secured the recovery of the vehicle.
