Heuningvlei Rapist Slammed 20 Years Jail Term During Women’s Month

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has secured a major conviction in the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), as a man received a 20-year imprisonment sentence for the rape of a five-year-old girl in Heuningvlei.

The horrific incident occurred on the evening of 17 January 2023 in Gasejane Village, Heuningvlei.

At approximately 23:50, a 36-year-old mother had briefly left her five-year-old daughter in the care of her uncle while she accompanied a friend home. Upon her return, the young child immediately disclosed that she had been raped by the accused.

Heuningvlei Rapist Gets 20-Year Sentence

The 42-year-old uncle confessed to the crime and was swiftly arrested and charged with rape. After a thorough investigation and court process, the Mothibistad Regional Court delivered its final verdict on 18 August 2025, sentencing the perpetrator to 20 years’ direct imprisonment.

A Strong Message During Women’s Month

The Acting District Commissioner of John Taolo Gaetsewe, Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, praised the dedication of the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Keitshwaretswe Tshikedi, and the collaboration of the National Prosecuting Authority.

He emphasised that this sentence sends a strong message about the protection of women, children, and vulnerable groups, particularly as the nation observes Women’s Month.

Brigadier Baloyi stated, “This sentence sends a strong message about the protection of women, children, and vulnerable groups.”
