Hawks Visit City Power Again Amid Ongoing R67 Million Transformer Probe

City Power has confirmed that the Hawks made another visit to its Johannesburg headquarters on Thursday. Spokesperson Isaac Mangena explained that the visit was part of an ongoing investigation launched in 2024.

“As previously communicated, the Hawks had earlier served City Power with a formal Request for Information,” Mangena said.

He stressed that the power utility remains transparent throughout the process. “We continue to cooperate fully with this lawful process and remain committed to providing all the necessary information required.”

Investigation Tied to R67 Million Transformer Order

The Hawks’ probe reportedly stems from a R67 million purchase order for electricity transformers. Despite payment being made, the equipment was allegedly never delivered.

This missing order has become a central focus of the investigation.

Mangena pushed back against suggestions that the Hawks’ presence amounted to a raid.

“The Hawks may, from time to time, visit our premises when they require additional information, and we have made it clear that they are welcome at any time,” he clarified.

City Power maintains that it will continue providing investigators with the necessary documentation as the matter unfolds.
