Hawks Officer Says He Was Told To ‘Drive Recklessly’ To Reach KT Molefe’s Home

A Hawks officer has claimed that he was urged by his superior to “drive recklessly” while responding to an incident involving suspected crime boss Katiso “KT” Molefe at his home.
Warrant Officer Sabelo Nkosi, who serves in the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section, made the revelation during his testimony before the Madlanga Commission on Monday.
Nkosi explained that on 6 December 2024, he was ordered by Brigadier Lesiba Mokoena to head to a Sandton property after reports emerged of individuals allegedly impersonating police officers.
The residence in question belonged to Molefe, who was being arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in connection with the murder of Vaal engineer Armand Swart.

Nkosi recounted that while he was delayed in traffic, his superior repeatedly called, expressing frustration at his slow progress.
“He said I must try to push,” Nkosi told the commission.
When evidence leader Advocate Lee Segeels-Ncube asked him what he understood by that instruction, Nkosi replied:
“Meaning that you must switch on your siren and blue lights now so that motorists will give way. Basically, you must drive recklessly now.”
When asked if he complied, Nkosi said, “I didn’t, commissioners.”
Commission Seeks Clarity from Brigadier Mokoena
The Madlanga Commission has since indicated that it wants Brigadier Mokoena to return to the stand to clarify inconsistencies in his previous testimony.
However, Advocate Segeels-Ncube revealed that Mokoena is hesitant to do so.
“He’s not sure, at this stage, if he is considered an implicated person having regard to the evidence that was led last week, so he is still considering his position,” she said.
According to Segeels-Ncube, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s (DPCI or Hawks) legal adviser has cautioned Mokoena against participating further unless the commission compels him to appear.
“They have advised him not to participate, at this stage, unless the commission absolutely wants him to come, but even then, he will still consider his position,” she added.
