Hawks Bust Illegal Steroid Lab In Western Cape, Two Suspects Arrested

Two suspects are set to appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Friday after the Hawks uncovered a clandestine laboratory allegedly used to manufacture illegal steroids in the Western Cape town.
Hawks Investigation Leads to Major Drug Bust
Western Cape Hawks spokesperson Lt-Col Siyabulela Vukubi confirmed that the bust took place on Wednesday following an investigation that began in January 2023. Authorities had received intelligence about steroids being couriered from Franschhoek and distributed to local recipients.

Officials intercepted several parcels, which were sent for testing, and results confirmed the presence of illegal steroids. This led to the identification of two suspects and an extensive investigation.
Fully Operational Lab Discovered
Authorities raided the premises on Wednesday, finding a fully operational steroid lab. A 27-year-old suspect was arrested on-site, while a second suspect was taken into custody on Thursday.
During the search and seizure operation, officials discovered pressing, sorting, and labelling machines, scales, ovens, powder, and suspected Schedule 4 medicines.

The value of the seized steroids is yet to be determined. The Hawks, in collaboration with the South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau and the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority, are continuing their investigations.
