Hanover Park Mourns Four-Year-Old Qadir Boer Killed In Gang Crossfire

Hanover Park residents are reeling from grief following the tragic death of four-year-old Qadir Boer, who was caught in the crossfire of gang violence on Wednesday afternoon. The young boy was struck by a stray bullet and later died in hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Two 17-year-old suspects were arrested shortly after the shooting in Moray Court, where the incident took place.

Kashiefa Mohammed from the Hanover Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) said the community is devastated and living in fear as shootings continue to plague the area.

“Our children are losing their lives. The community of Hanover Park, they sleep with the sound of gunshots, they wake up with the sound of gunshots,” she said.

Children Trapped Indoors Amid Gang Clashes

Mohammed added that during the current school holidays, many children have been forced to stay indoors for their own safety, as rival gangs continue to open fire in residential areas.

The stray bullet that claimed Qadir’s life was reportedly intended for a rival gang member, but tragically missed its mark. Residents say the incident has reignited calls for stronger policing and community protection in Hanover Park, an area long scarred by gang-related crime.

Hanover Park’s tragedy follows another heartbreaking case in Mitchells Plain, where 12-year-old Moegamat Faizel Challis was killed last week. Moegamat was hit in the head and leg by stray bullets while collecting party packs for his younger siblings in Tafelsig.

His mother, Ronel Challis, said she personally knew the men involved in the shooting. “As far as I know, two were taken in and at the moment they’re at Pollsmoor,” she said.

Both Hanover Park and Mitchells Plain have been among several Cape Town communities experiencing a surge in gang and gun violence in recent weeks, leaving families and children caught in the crossfire.
