Hammanskraal Woman Granted R5,000 Bail After Death Of Neighbour’s Four-Year-Old Son

A 38-year-old Hammanskraal woman accused of fatally shooting her neighbour’s four-year-old son has been released on bail following her appearance in the Themba Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Tselane Lebohang Mautlu, who lives in the Chris Hani area, faces a charge of murder linked to the death of Abokeng Minyuko. The incident has drawn strong reactions from the local community due to the age of the child and the circumstances surrounding the case.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) told the court that the shooting allegedly took place late on the evening of January 25, 2026, while the child was playing in the street close to Mautlu’s home.

“It is alleged that upon realising that the child had been injured, the accused took him to a nearby clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival,” said NPA regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.

“Thereafter, the accused drove to the police station and handed herself over to the police.”

Court grants bail with strict conditions

During the bail proceedings, the State argued against Mautlu’s release, pointing to the seriousness of the charge and noting that she is known to State witnesses.

The magistrate, however, found that releasing the accused on bail would be in the interests of justice, provided that firm conditions were enforced. Bail was set at R5,000.

As part of those conditions, Mautlu must move away from the Chris Hani area, report to her local police station twice a week, and may not possess or use a firearm.

“The matter has been postponed to April 15, 2026, for further investigations,” Mahanjana added.
