Hailstorm In Limpopo Leaves Four Dead And Many Injured

Over the past weekend, a devastating hailstorm struck the Bushbuckridge area in Limpopo, tragically claiming the lives of at least four individuals and injuring more than 40 others.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) had issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, forecasting hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall across several provinces, including Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

Impact on Education and Community

In a report by Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr. Reginah Mhaule, it was highlighted that the hailstorm inflicted damage on over 30 schools in the region, jeopardizing the administration of the national senior certificate examinations.

Despite this, officials took swift action to ensure that the examinations proceeded as planned. Dr. Mhaule commended the district officials for their immediate response, utilizing unaffected classrooms and even church buildings to accommodate students.

Community Response and Future Assessments

As heavy rain continued into Monday evening, more houses were reported damaged in nearby villages, with power supply disruptions and inaccessible roads affecting areas such as Ximhungwe, Thulamahashe, Cottondale, Maripe, Shatale, and Maboke circuits.
