Gunmen Storm Franschhoek Home And Kill Three In Deadly Groendal Shooting

Police in the Western Cape have launched a manhunt for two unidentified suspects following a deadly mass shooting in Franschhoek on Sunday, 17 May 2026.
The targeted attack took place inside a home in the Groendal area and left three men dead, while a woman and another man sustained serious injuries.
The shooting occurred shortly before 10am in Jakaranda Street, Groendal.
Three Men Killed In Franschhoek Mass Shooting
South African Police Service spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed that five people were shot during the incident.
“Reports from the scene indicate that two gunmen entered a home in Jakaranda Street, Groendal, at approximately 9.55am on Sunday and fired several shots. Three men were killed on the scene, and a woman and another man were injured. The victims are between the ages of 30 and 35,” Potelwa said.
Authorities confirmed that the victims who died at the scene were all men aged between 30 and 35.
Serious Violent Crimes Detectives Take Over Investigation
While mass shootings are often associated with Cape Town’s Cape Flats, violent crime incidents have also increased in rural and winelands communities such as Franschhoek in recent years.
Franschhoek police have opened murder and attempted murder cases following the attack.

“Provincial Serious Violent Crimes detectives have since taken over the investigation. No arrests have been effected yet, and the motive for the shooting incident is the subject of the investigation currently underway. The search for the perpetrators of the crime continues,” Potelwa said.
Police Appeal For Information After Groendal Attack
Police have appealed to members of the public who may have information about the shooting to come forward.
Authorities urged anyone with information that could assist investigators to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submit tips anonymously through the MySAPS mobile application.
The investigation into the deadly Franschhoek shooting remains ongoing.
