Gunmen Kill IFP Councillor Before Firing On Taxi, Killing Two Children

The KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for the suspects responsible for the tragic killings of an Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) ward councillor and two schoolchildren.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the councillor was ambushed on the R618 while attending to a broken-down vehicle in Nongoma Local Municipality.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe stated that a group of armed men stopped next to the councillor’s vehicle and shot him multiple times, resulting in his untimely death.

In a shocking turn of events, the suspects also fired shots at a passing scholar transport taxi, injuring four children. Sadly, two of the wounded children, aged 11 and 12, succumbed to their injuries.

The police have allocated all available resources, including the National Task Team responsible for investigating political killings, to this case.

General Masemola, in a statement, assured the community of Nongoma that the police are working tirelessly to trace and apprehend those behind this heinous attack.

The IFP national spokesperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, expressed deep shock and distress over the killing. He emphasised the urgent need to address the ongoing issue of political assassinations in KwaZulu-Natal. The IFP mourns the loss of yet another dedicated servant leader.
