18-Year-Old Groblersdal Brother Arrested For Raping 10-Year-Old Disabled Sibling

An 18-year-old man is behind bars this week after he was arrested for the alleged rape of his younger disabled brother, a vulnerable child aged just 10, at their home in Ga-Kopa, Tafelkop, in Groblersdal.

The suspect made his first appearance before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, facing charges linked to the shocking incident that has left the local community reeling. Court proceedings confirmed that the accused will remain in custody pending a formal application, with his next court date set for 18 March 2026.

Betrayal of Trust While Groblersdal Mother Attended a Funeral

According to police reports, the horrific act allegedly took place on Thursday, 26 February 2026. The 10-year-old victim, who lives with a disability, was left in the care of his older brother while their mother was away from home attending a funeral.

The crime only came to light days later when the mother observed her son experiencing significant pain during his bath. When she questioned the child about his discomfort, he remained silent initially. However, two days after the incident, the young boy mustered the courage to disclose that his elder brother had sexually assaulted him.

Swift Arrest Following Report to Motetema Police

The distraught mother immediately took action, reporting the heinous crime at the Motetema Police Station on Monday, 10 March 2026. Recognising the severity of the case, it was swiftly transferred to the specialised Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

In a swift breakthrough, members of the FCS Unit acted on the information received and traced the 18-year-old suspect on the same day the case was opened, placing him under arrest without incident.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has weighed in on the distressing case, issuing a strong condemnation and calling on communities to prioritise child safety over family ties.

“This crime, allegedly committed by a biological brother against a vulnerable child, is particularly shocking,” Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe stated firmly.

“Parents and guardians must report this type of heinous incident immediately to the police, regardless of who the perpetrator is. The SAPS will pursue it with the utmost seriousness, and the FCS will ensure a thorough investigation. The suspect must face the full consequences of the law,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
