Grandson 21 Accidentally Stabs Grandfather To Death During Altercation With Father

A  21-year-old Verulam man, Hamza Ally, has been sentenced to three years of correctional supervision for the culpable homicide of his 76-year-old grandfather, Shaik Goolam Ally Shaik Mohammed.

Ally accidentally stabbed his grandfather during a scuttle with his father Zameer Ally, in January 2024, over a disagreement about removing stormwater from their home.

Accidental Stabbing During Scuffle

According to Ally’s plea statement, he and his father reached for a knife on the kitchen counter during the argument, and his grandfather intervened to separate them.

Unfortunately, Ally accidentally stabbed his grandfather while trying to get away from his father.

Ally claimed he had no intention of harming his grandfather before the accidental incident and had spent time seeking forgiveness from his family.

Sentence Includes Community Service And House Arrest

As part of his correctional supervision sentence, Ally will render community service for 16 hours per month for three years, reside at a fixed address, remain in fixed employment, and refrain from consuming alcohol or prohibited drugs.

He was also sentenced to five years imprisonment, which was wholly suspended for a period of five years.

Family Forgiveness And Support

Ally’s family, including his parents and grandmother, have forgiven him and provided support throughout the ordeal.

His parents and grandmother visited him regularly while he was detained after he accidentally  stabbed his grandfather at Westville Prison, and he has been allowed to fulfill his employment duties and attend religious activities since his release.
