A Gqeberha woman has been arrested after a shocking video circulated online showing her violently pushing a three-year-old boy to the ground, slapping him, and hitting him repeatedly while berating him and threatening to call the police on him.
Police spokesperson Captain André Beetge confirmed that the 28-year-old woman was arrested in Nelson Mandela Bay’s northern areas on Tuesday.

“Mount Road Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit arrested the female suspect on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,” Beetge said.
The arrest followed the viral spread of a distressing one-minute and 30-second video in which the little boy — dressed in a green shirt and black trousers — is struck on the head and body several times.

At one point, the woman can be heard shouting, “You are making me sick… I’ll get the police to come fetch you,” before grabbing and shaking the child.
Despite other people in the home attempting to intervene, the woman continues her alleged assault as the toddler cries uncontrollably.
Child Assault Investigation Deepens
After the attack, the woman picks the boy up, storms out of the home, and is later seen walking hand in hand with him as he appears to have calmed down.
Police traced the suspect to Bethelsdorp, where she was taken into custody. She is expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrates’ Court on Thursday on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Beetge said the investigation is ongoing and that additional child assault charges may be added.
